چکیده

We study the Josephson effect through a one-dimensional system of interacting electrons, connected to two superconductors by tunnel junctions. The interactions are treated in the framework of the one-channel Luttinger model. At zero temperature, the Josephson critical current is found to decay algebraically with increasing distance between the junctions. The exponent is proportional to the strength of the Coulomb interaction. If the Luttinger liquid has a finite size, the Josephson current depends on the total number of electrons modulo 4. These parity effects are studied for the ring, coupled capacitively to a gate-voltage and threaded by a magnetic flux. The Josephson current changes continuously as a function of the gate voltage and stepwise as a function of the magnetic flux. The electron-electron interaction introduces qualitatively new features compared to the non-interacting case. PACS numbers: 74.50 +r, 72.15 Nj Typeset using REVTEX

Tunneling into one-dimensional Josephson chains and Luttinger liquids

One-dimensional arrays of Josephson junctions have been studied because of their unusual zero-temperature superconductor-insulator phase transitions. Furthermore, their low-energy Hamiltonian coincides with that of a Luttinger liquid. Hence 1-D Josephson junction arrays provide a physical realization of this model system. In order to explore these similarities we discuss 1-D arrays with defects...

Tunneling density of states, pair correlation, and Josephson current in spin-incoherent Luttinger-liquid/superconductor hybrid systems

We study a hybrid system consisting of a spin-incoherent Luttinger liquid adjoined at one or both ends to a superconductor. We find that the tunneling density of states diverges at low energies and exhibits a universal frequency dependence independent of the strength of the interactions in the system. We show that in spite of exponentially decaying pair correlations with distance into the spin-...

Parity dependent Josephson current through a helical Luttinger liquid

We consider a superconductor–two dimensional topological insulator–superconductor junction and study how the 2π and 4π -periodic Josephson currents are affected by the electron–electron interaction. In the longjunction limit the supercurrent can be evaluated by modeling the system as a helical Luttinger liquid coupled to superconducting reservoirs. After having introduced bosonization in the pr...

Insulating Josephson Junction Chains as Pinned Luttinger Liquids.

Quantum physics in one spatial dimension is remarkably rich, yet even with strong interactions and disorder, surprisingly tractable. This is due to the fact that the low-energy physics of nearly all one-dimensional systems can be cast in terms of the Luttinger liquid, a key concept that parallels that of the Fermi liquid in higher dimensions. Although there have been many theoretical proposals ...

Charge and Spin Effects in Mesoscopic Josephson Junctions

We consider the charge and spin effects in low dimensional superconducting weak links. The first part of the review deals with the effects of electron-electron interaction in Superconductor/Luttinger liquid/Superconductor junctions. The experimental realization of this mesoscopic hybrid system can be the individual single wall carbon nanotube that bridges the gap between two bulk superconductor...
